Global Recycled Standard - GRS

Global Recycled Standard - GRS

The GRS is an international, voluntary, full-product standard that sets out requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices and chemical restrictions.

    The objectives of GRS:

    • alignment of definitions across multiple applications;
    • track and trace recycled input materials;
    • provide customers (brands and consumers) with a tool to make informed decisions;
    • reduce harmful impact of production to people and the environment;
    • provide assurance that materials in the final product are actually recycled and sustainably processed;
    • drive innovation in addressing quality issues in the use of recycled materials.

    The GRS is intended for use with any product that contains at least 20% recycled material.  Each stage of production is required to be certified, beginning at the recycling stage and ending at the last seller in the final business-to-business transaction.  Material collection and material concentration sites are subject to self-declaration, document collection and on-site visits

Organic Content Standard (OCS)

The OCS aims to increase organic agricultural production.

Recycled Claim Standard (RCS)

The RCS is designed to boost the use of recycled materials.

Global Recycled Standard (GRS)

The GRS also ensures that recycled products are processed in a more climate-friendly way.

Responsible Wool Standard (RWS)

The RWS improves the welfare of sheep and the land they graze on

Our standards help companies and consumers to verify sustainability claims.

    The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) was originally developed by Control Union Certifications in 2008 and ownership was passed to the Textile Exchange on 1 January 2011. The GRS is intended to meet the needs of companies looking to verify the recycled content of their products (both finished and intermediate) and to verify responsible social, environmental and chemical practices in their production.

Accreditation

The objectives of the GRS are to define requirements to ensure accurate content claims and good working conditions, and that harmful environmental and chemical impacts are minimised. This includes companies in ginning, spinning, weaving and knitting, dyeing and printing and stitching in more than 50 countries. - https://textileexchange.org/standards/
